Ben - I like this record. I must have listened to it 5 times and got to know the songs. There’s lots of catchy stuff and good tunes. It doesn’t do anything new or particularly different with the instrumentation, relying quite a lot on acoustic rather than electric guitar - no Steely Dan solos here! Subject matter is quite sad but usually with an upbeat message. His voice is very likeable, a more pleasant version of Nick Cave (coincidence they’re both Australian?). As a bonus it’s only 37 minutes long! So, I like it quite a lot, but will I play it again? I’m afraid I doubt it, I don’t think there’s enough going on to stand up to repeated, active, listening. A very honourable mention though.

Paul - I've enjoyed it too. Not sure there's much more I can add to what Ben's said. The Nick Cave phrasing is very noticeable on Tender Years, while I Don't Do Drugs, I Do Time reminds me of Johnny Cash duets with his wife June Carter. And that's a good thing. It's a thoughtful and hopeful record in a lot of ways. I think I prefer the songs with fewer instruments but there's a lot to like about the record. That said, I'm more likely to listen to some of his other week than return to this one.

Stu - ROBERT FORSTER ❤️❤️❤️❤️ I must start be saying that I adore both Forster and his long time partner in music Grant Mcclennan, now sadly missed! Spending the 80’ and 90’s knee deep in records I was particularly taken by the antipodean outfit the GO BETWEENS! I loved collecting their records and they are dear friends! This LP has a hint of playfulness, melancholy and some whimsy. Clever lyrics woven together with mainly acoustic instruments. It’s gentle and has his lilt throughout the proceedings. I love his observations especially on ‘The Roads’. Beautifully Melodies weave around each track. A timeless talent with a very rich archive of work under his belt!! It’s so long now, is it out of 10 or stars??? 8/10 🌟🌟🌟🌟
