Paul - When I was much younger I had a friend called Brian Mead. When we were around 11 or 12 I remember him telling me that in the year 2000 'we’d all be listening to space music going boop and beep' etc. I’m glad he was wrong because I couldn’t have sat through much of it if this is an example.
It’s not a total write-off. There are some typical 60s themes (groovy!) which amuse me and in general the shorter tracks are more tolerable. On the flip side there are couple here (Moon Journey and that Cat Boogie thing) that are a real struggle. The latter of those I couldn’t listen to all the way through. Captain DJ Disco UFO and Black Eye (End Credits) are perhaps the best of these selections and thankfully worth sticking around for. Not one I’ll be revisiting.
Ben - I agree with everything Paul said, apart from I didn't have a friend called Brian Mead when I was younger!
Stu - I’ve been exploring this style for a while now! Since buying a lot of the BBC RADIOPHONIC WORKSHOP releases I’ve found some wonderful intergalactic sounds!! This is a fantastic example and his other releases are also super cool.
I simply love the experimental feel of the music, it reminds me of so much from the 70’s and 80’s! You have the Clangers, Joe 90, Thunderbirds and beyond! There’s movie and tv themes galore going off! I love the inclusion of the funk and the soul, sort of shaft!! There’s some small bits of fairground, arcade and circus. Each track whisks me back to a great memory!! Grandstand, Star Soccer! It’s light and fluffy in places and thoughtful 🤔 there’s whimsical and moody! This LP just delivers on every level for me! There’s a hint of DAZZLE SHIPS! It reminds me a Saturday morning cartoons, Rhubarb and Custard and Michael Bentin’s potty time!! I just have a huge smile on my face listening to it’s charms!!!! 9/10 for me! A NOSTALGIC GEM ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
