Dean:
I found 'Seas of Static' and then I searched for something else.
I've given it about 5 listens now and I find myself easily distracted.
It seems not to have enough musical dexterity to sustain my interest for long.
It is like a yomp and not a 1500m race. I am however very relieved to have finished.
If pressed, I would give 'Kathleen' and 'Onset' as my favourite tracks. I like the female vocal and the acoustic tracks more than the majority of electric guitar motivated offerings.
I guess I'm not looking for an outlook that is without hope. I'm searching for spirited resistance.
I do feel that you Stu need some positive feedback but maybe I'm wrong. I think you've had a poor reception lately and I feel unable to help.
The sleeve is nice, reminded me of Neville Brody back in the 80s. A little nostalgia for me to enjoy. Thanks for that
Paul: This one hasn't engaged me at all. Every now and again an interesting musical idea drifts by but just when you think the band will get hold of it and develop something it slips away. I agree with Dean about the acoustic tracks being my preferred style of theirs (although I'd pick out We Were as my favourite). Then I have a sleep and I can't remember how it goes. Most of them I can't remember how they go about a minute later. It's not for me.
Ben: My immediate reaction was that this is a bunch of long haired greebos rocking out, a bit like Foo Fighters or Pearl Jam but the more I listened I realised there’s more to it than that. It’s well produced, the instruments and voice blend together so nicely and the power comes at you in a smooth wall, no sharp angles, which I like a lot. It now reminds me of 6 music rockers Drenge, who made some great noisy tracks, and also The Wedding Present wigging out. There are elements of Pink Floyd and JAMC too. Also great use of sound effects which add to the sound. I’ve listened to it a few times and got to know the songs and anticipate the chord changes, it’s very pleasing. An added bonus is that the album is only 30 minutes long. I have now looked up Dead Horse One and discovered they are a French shoegaze neo-psychedelic band, who knew? I am, very unexpectedly, giving the album a ⭐️. Nice one Stuart!
Stu: DEAD HORSE ONE, is a great story for me!!! There’s always more than just the record in isolation!! The record label is REQUIEM POUR EN TWISTER, a pair of French dudes who hooked up with me over shoegaze and French pop!! They did me a cracking deal and I own all their releases and oh boy there are some cracking LPS!! Go check out the label and give the guys some love!! ❤️
I bought their first LP and fell in love, 2 more followed and I fell even more!! Then this one dropped and OMG, at first I was taken aback, much heavier than before! Two tracks in and I’m thinking oh no the guys have had musical indifferences and the band had split up! BUT, the voice is still there underneath the heavy lifting and now that I’ve listened 6 times I love them even more!! I’m sure we all like bands showing progress!!! Some fans may turn their heads but I’m looking forward to more heavy riffing!! Most bands that riff heavy have a shouty vocal which puts me off every time!!!
This record sounds great and looks epic!! I own all their records and I’m smiling ❤️❤️❤️❤️ 🌟
