Paul - I was a big fan of singer-songwriter Chuck Cleaver’s previous band, Ass Ponys, but I’d paid little notice of Wussy since they formed in 2001. Their cover version of Ceremony piqued my interest.
I like this album. I especially enjoyed the guitar effects and the way that Cleaver and ex-girlfriend (his, not mine) Lisa Walker’s vocals work in tandem. I’d probably like a bit more of that. There are definitely some star-worthy songs on here;  One Per Customer, Tall Weeds, Aliens in Our Midst, but overall it falls a little bit short of that high accolade. I’ll be listening to more Wussy though.

Ben - I like one per customer, builds nicely, great guitar sound. Cake is good too, nice energy after opc. Gloria doesnt quite work for me, bit lightweight, dull. The whole thing is unashamedly American indie. I guess Tall Weeds gets the feel of opc going again but not as well imo. Firefly is another slow one - the energy is seeping out of the record at this point for me. This track seems to drag, 5 mins, argh. Aliens… gets things going again, much better and darkly comic too. This one would’ve fitted nicely on Lou Reed’s brilliant New York album. Skip keeps the pace up but it’s a bit…meh. Oblivion goes back to slower brooding again, although the guitar hook and solos are nice. Nope… yep, quite like it. Is there an unconscious bias making me favour the male singer or has he got a more interesting voice? Black Hole… oh God they’ve gone with a slowie from the female singer. Downer to end it. Quite liked some of the songs but disliked a lot so won’t be listening again.

Stu - I’ve listened to this LP 3 times now and I have yet to change my mind! From the outside, I should love this LP! Great cover, it’s on my genre radar, male/female vocals and scuzzy guitars!!! So why don’t I love it??? I don’t like his vocal bizarrely! I like the lyrical content BUT the sound of the whole thing just sticks in my outer ear and it doesn’t have a chance to massage my ear drums! I feel cheated if I’m honest! To the point where I will try again as I’m sure there is something in their for me!!!
