Paul: The Germans have a word for something starting off pleasant and soon becoming boring - angenehmbaldlangweilig. Well they don't, I made that up. But if they were to hear this they'd probably decide they do need a word for that.
That's part of the album taken care of. The other part is so sickeningly sweet I had to have a diabetes test after listening to it. Perhaps if the tracks were shorter I'd enjoy it. Or if he could sing. Two words - Christmas Twee.
This will not feature in my Christmas listening again. I shall stick to the Glenn Miller Orchestra, the great crooners of the 50s and Chris Kamara.
Ben: A Peace of Us starts off well - Stu introduced me to Purple Mountains for which I am very grateful and this is a decent cover of one of their songs. However the album quickly descends into pure schmaltz and I’m afraid it’s not to my taste at all. Why couldnt they have selected some less sugary xmas tracks like christmas wrapping or fairy tale? It’s sentimentality gone mad is what it is. If I’m forced to listen to it again I will need a bucket by my side (just in case I’m sick you understand) so Stu I’m not so grateful for this recommendation I’m afraid.
Stu: It is indeed syrup BUT, with the volcanic activity that occurs in my brain this does soothe me in a special way! I’m in love with all the players so it’s homely and comforting for me! I’ve listened again twice today and still love it ❤️❤️❤️ I make no apologies!! I’m keen to stress that I’m not trying to recommend stone cold killers, more so it’s an opportunity to show off my eclectic taste to its extremes!! Long may we be best of friends and polar opposite on our sonic journeys
Dean: Well I listened and put up the Christmas decorations and it sustained me through that ordeal and for that I'm grateful. I also received an I'm Nuts t-shirt through the post and naturally thought of you Stu. Many thanks for both. X
